Wool Care Guide

How to Care for your Wool Cover
Wool covers made their peak appearance in the 1940s and are still highly used today for many cloth diapering families.
The beauty of wool is in its natural fibers. Not only are these able to keep your baby warm in the winter but, it’s also able to help regulate your babies temperature… meaning its perfect for year round use!
Wool even has the magic capacity to absorb up to 3x’s its weight, helping keep your little one feeling even dryer. Which means, this can help prevent diaper rashes especially in those babes with sensitive skin.
These are made to last and hold their shape for a number of years. Our Baby Behind’s Wool Nappy Cover is made with 97% Australian Merino Wool and 3% spandex which gives it a nice shape and fit over your bubs nighttime solution. The interlock wool once lanolized provides a perfect waterproof barrier for even the heaviest of wetters giving you some ultimate leak protection.
Pair your wool cover with some of your favorite absorbencies:
Paired with a flat/preflat for a trim and natural solution
Paired with a newborn prefold as a cover
Paired with a designated overnight nappy for ultimate leak protection
Paired with a workhorse fitted to get your toddler through the day
Use over the top of a disposables/cloth nappies at nights for extra coverage
We see these as a wonderful investment piece to keep your little one dry and comfortable through the night that will last you through several kiddos. Wool may sound a little crazy but really they are simple, comfortable and high functioning with low maintenance- making this a win, win for us.
Wool, just like cloth diapering, comes with a learning curve. Luckily for you (and me!), they are super low maintenance due to their self-cleaning capacity. If used overnight, your wool cover will appear damp or cool to the touch. This is expected, as it’s done the work of absorbing some of that moisture from the absorbency underneath. In between uses, hang the nappy out over the crib and by night you’ll find it dry, fresh and ready to go for the next evening.
Unless it’s been soiled on, your wool cover should only need to be washed and lanolized, on average, every 4 weeks! Every-time your wool is washed, it’ll need to be lanolized- so pairing these steps together will help make it even easier!
